The Bottom Line

Not quite as tasty as Freebirds’ burritos, but overall a better experience.

Pros

  • Fast service without feeling like fast food
  • Nice patio that’s connected to a playground for the kids
  • Wallet-friendly

Cons

  • The menu is not very big
  • Parking lot is tiny
  • Located off West Alabama, which is a very busy street

Description

Guide Review - Review - Mission Burritos

First opened in 1996 as a singular location, Mission Burritos has grown to be one of the city’s finer burrito-based haunts. There are four locations in and around the Houston area.

In and of itself, the food is classifiable as “slightly above average,” but in its entirety Mission Burrito earns a high rating based on the Pros listed above. Despite now being franchiseable, the West Alabama location still manages to feel like a neighborhood restaurant, which might be its single most impressive attribute. The service it quick, portions big, and prices low. There is a solid little playground for the kiddos so you can expect that crowd around midday. (Curiously, there are a limited number of high chairs.)

There are some very brazen birds that hangout on the patio which make any trip back inside for a refill a nervous trip, but beyond that (and the Cons listed above) there’s not much wrong with the place.
