From About.com

Houston's media outlets are rated top notch in the nation. Below is a listing of some of the best newspapers and periodicals published locally.

1. Houston Chronicle

The Houston Chronicle is one of the 10 largest newspapers in the United States, with a daily circulation of more than 549,300. The Chron, the Chronicle's website, receives nearly 25 million visitors per month.

2. The Buzz Magazines

The Bellaire Buzz, The West University Buzz, The Memorial Buzz and The Tanglewood Buzz are community lifestyle magazines about people, products, and services in these upscale and influential Houston-area communities.

The Buzz has a total circulation of 58,000 (14,500 per publication) and is mailed free of charge each month to residents in the communities and surrounding areas.

3. Houston Press

When Houstonians want to find out what there is to do--or what other people did--in a given week, they turn to the Houston Press. The city's only major news and entertainment weekly is as brash and freewheeling as the city itself. The publication has more than 300,000 weekly readers.

4. Jewish Herald-Voice

Since 1908, the Herald has upheld the promise of remaining the Voice, committed to its history and its community, and today remains the only newspaper serving the Greater Houston and Gulf Coast Jewish communities.

5. The West University Examiner

The West University Examiner is delivered on Wednesdays to 13,875 homes in the communities of West University Place, Braeswood Place, Linkwood, Morningside Place, Old Braeswood, Southampton and Sunset Terrace. An additional 6,125 copies are distributed through area retail outlets.

With an emphasis on coverage of local news and personality profiles, the West U Examiner is the community information source for neighborhoods adjoining Rice University and the Texas Med Center.

6. The Greensheet

Greensheet, which began in 1970, has become one of the top classified directories in Texas. From its humble beginning Greensheet has sought to do one thing, bring buyers and sellers together.

This simple idea has grown into a 30 million-dollar a year industry that still offers The Greensheet paper to Houston readers for free.
