The 4th of July is a great summertime holiday; lots of bar-b-ques, fireworks, and a general appreciation for American patriotism. Here are a few (free) ways to celebrate the 4th of July in Houston with your family.
1. Freedom Over Texas
Houston’s “official” Fourth of July Festival will be held at Eleanor Tinsley Park and boasts the nation’s largest land-based firework display. Expect a mini auto show, volleyball tournament, beer garden, and sensational performance by Texas’ own Clay Walker. The gala begins at 4:00 pm and concludes at 10:00 pm with a fireworks show set to a soundtrack of classic American music.

2. A Star-Spangled Salute: Houston Symphony
Celebrate Independence Day in style with the Houston Symphony led by Michael Krajewski. Experience Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture as well as a host of all-American favorite tunes at Houston’s Miller Outdoor Theater. Concert is immediately followed by a fireworks display.

3. Pearland July 4th Celebration of Freedom
Pearland High School will host this year’s July 4th celebration which will commence with a dramatic military fly-over and salute and singing of the National Anthem. Other highlights include live musical performances by Level One Band, face painting, and a 20 minute firework display. Get a head start on the holiday fun by making a stop at carnival which extends from Friday until Sunday.

4. Red, Hot, and Blue Festival: Woodlands Town Center
The Woodlands Town Center will host its 12th annual Fourth of July Celebration. The festivities kick off at 9:00 am with a parade featuring clowns, horses and fire engines, and end at dusk with a 20 minute fireworks show. Be on the lookout for Spiderman, Dora the Explorer and Scooby Doo as they mingle with the crowd throughout the day.
5. Bayou Bend July 4th Celebration
Commemorate July 4th with a live reading of the Declaration of Independence at the Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens. Celebrations begin at 1:00 pm and include early-American themed performances, crafts, a puppet show and a chance to sign a large replica of the Declaration of Independence.
