Book Reading: Katherine Center’s Everyone Is Beautiful
Get some bookwormy goodness in today by sitting in on author Katherine Center’s reading of her fiction work, Everyone Is Beautiful. I feel like I’m obligated to make some kind of “well Katherine must’ve never seen Tom Waits” type of joke. 7 p.m. Free.

Photo Exhibit: Unite and Untie
My wife is a bit of a photobug, so I “get” to accompany her to this photography exhibit or that photography exhibit; Unite and Untie is one that I’m actually looking forward to. Basically, it’s an exhibit that tackles the daily lives of soldiers from the war in the Middle East. If nothing else, it has to be better than the time we went to look at pictures of other pictures. Yeah, that’s right. Pictures. Of other pictures. 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Free.

Play/Dance: Caution: Women At Work
Did you know that there’s actually an official International Women’s Day soiree? The folks at the Barnevelder Movement/Arts Complex did, as they’ve scheduled to host the premiere of Caution: Women At Work, a collaborative show between poet Donna Garrett and choreographer Sara Draper. 7 p.m. $45 per ticket.

Comedy: Bruce Bruce
Yuck it up with comedian (BET, Comedy Central) Bruce Bruce tonight at the Houston Improv. He’s gotta be funny, right? I mean, he has the same name twice. That’s pretty wacky. 8 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. $25 per ticket.

Boat Race: Buffalo Bayou Regatta
How else to explain it: The Buffalo Bayou Regatta is a 15-mile kayak race down the Buffalo Bayou. It’s not exactly Cannonball Run, but it’s something. 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Starts at 7700 San Felipe, ends at Sesquicentennial Park at 400 Texas.

Houston Icon’s Birthday Party: Little Joe Washington
For the unaware, LJW is an unquestioned icon around these parts. Rumor has it that Little Joe Washington, blues musician extraordinaire and local legend, was already riding around town when the Allen brothers founded Houston. You should definitely help him ring in his eighth decade at his party at the Continental Club tonight. 4 p.m.

The Birth of Christianity: A Jewish Story
The press release bills this as a display of ancient scrolls, objects, and artifacts that allows “the story of two of the world’s most influential religions [to] unfold,” but the real entertainment will probably come from counting how many tools make really edgy and clever Mel Gibson jokes. The over/under is set at 14 1/2, by the way.
