Houston Calendar of Events July
Music, Arts, and other Houston Tomfoolery for the Month of July

By Shea Serrano, About.com

This July we've got just a little bit of everything that makes Houston great; there are concerts, plays, art exhibits, sporting events, and outdoor activities. Know of an event in Houston that isn't listed below but should be? Shoot me an email.

Saturday, July 4
Toyota Center: Beyonce in Concert

Beyonce, arguably the biggest star to ever come out of Houston, is in concert tonight at 7:30 p.m. Make sure you brush up on your “Single Ladies” dance, because it’s pretty much mandatory that anybody that attends a Beyonce concert know how to do it.

Toyota Center

1510 Polk St.
713.758.7200

Sunday, July 5 The Ensemble Theater: The Wiz
This show seems like it became a lot more relevant, didn’t it. Starts at 3 p.m.

Ensemble Theatre

3535 Main St.
713.520.0055

Monday, July 6
Jones Hall: Houston Chronicle Dollar Experience

Thanks to the Houston Chronicle, one dollar will get you a seat to see the Houston Symphony. Very cool. Begins at 7:30 p.m.

Jones Hall

713.227.3974
615 Louisiana St.

Tuesday, July 7
Minute Maid Park: Houston Astros vs. Pittsburgh Pirates

The one good thing about having an irrelevant baseball team is that the tickets are super cheap. The one bad thing: they’re still irrelevant. It’s a crazy ironic conundrum.

Houston Astros

501 Crawford St.
1.800.ASTROS.2

Wednesday, July 8
Hobby Center: Broadway In Houston- Phantom of the Opera

Get there by 8 p.m. What else do you need to know?

Hobby Center

800 Bagby St.
1.800.745.3000

Thursday, July 9
The Health Museum: Facing Mars

An exhibit designed to address Man’s curiosity of Mars. It will address whether of not to go, the effects it will have on the human body, and if there is actual life there (among other things).

Health Museum

1515 Hermann Dr.
713-521-1515

Friday, July 10
The Woodlands Pavilion: Chicago and Earth, Wind, & Fire

How much fun is this concert going to be? A lot of fun, that’s how much. (By the way, wasn’t there a big fire in Chicago a long time ago? Does that make this show a little ironic?)

Woodlands Pavillion

2005 Lake Robbins Dr.
281.363.3300

Saturday, July 11
Wortham Center: Dora the Explorer Live!

Dora, Dora, Dora the Explorer! I’ve got two kids, which means I’ll (probably) be at this show. Ugh. On the bright side, at least I’ll be able to spend $23 on nachos! Begins at 11 a.m.

Wortham Center

500 Texas Ave.
Houston, TX, 77002

Sunday, July 12
Frank’s Pizza: Sunday Nite Blues at Frank’s

Though it’ll probably never top the quality of Mr. Gino’s throwback Sunday night blues extravaganza, this one does offer the ability to order a pizza, which is usually the best way to negate most deficiencies.

Frank’s Pizza

417 Travis St.
713.225.5656

Monday, July 13
Reliant Park: Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey Circus

I remember I went to a circus when I was a kid and was terrified. I’m looking forward to subjecting my boys to that same terror.

Barnum & Bailey

One Reliant Park
832.667.1400

Tuesday, July 14
REI: Hiking In Houston 101

If any company is capable of teaching you how to hike, it’s REI, hiking and camping experts.. This ought to be lots of fun, so long as you enjoy lugging around heavy, heavy equipment on hot, hot days.

REI

7538 Westheimer
1-800-426-4840
