Bayou City Art Festival at a Glance:

Houston’s award-winning outdoor art gallery is a juried fine art event that boasts 300 acclaimed artists in 19 media formats from throughout the U.S. and the world. Ranked the #3 Festival in the U.S. by the readers of AmericanStyle Magazine, the event features fine art, multicultural music and dance, international food and wine cafes, and interactive art, including the Capital One Bank Creative Zone, where children and families can discover the fun of making art together.

October 10th and 11th
10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Where:

901 Bagby, in front of City Hall and around Hermann Square on the streets of Walker, Bagby and McKinney, plus Sam Houston Park and Houston Downtown Library Plaza.

Featured Artist:

Kimber Fiebiger, who is based in Minneapolis, Minnesota, made her Houston debut last fall at Bayou City Art Festival Downtown 2008. Her Texas-sized Humpty Dumpty sculptures won her first prize that year, and a slot as feature artist for the Fall '09 festival.

Outdoor Art Gallery:

Juried fine art by 300 artists representing 19 media formats, including: clay (decorative and functional), digital (not photography), drawing/pastel, fiber/textiles, furniture (functional), glass, jewelry, leather, metal, mixed media 2-D, mixed media 3-D, painting (acrylic or oil), painting (watercolor), photography (digital or computer manipulated), photography (traditional), printmaking (intaglio, relief and planographic), sculpture (3-D media), and wood.

Artist Demonstrations:

The Houston Arts Alliance presents visual artisans, such as origami paper folders, guitar makers, wood carvers and clay arts/pottery makers for ongoing artist demonstrations.

Capital One Bank Creative Zone:

This is a free interactive area for children and families to explore the fun of making art. Capital One Bank makes a donation to each participating non-profit partner that sponsors an art activity. Previous projects have included Wax Hands, Ornamental Rocks, Dia de los Muertos Masks, and more.

"Art on Water" Floating Art Exhibition:

In addition to the 300 artists who will showcase their works, there will be up to 15 artists whose works will be floating in or on City Hall's Reflection Pool. Deadline for "Art on Water" entries is Sept. 18. For more information read this.

Epicurean Adventure:

A fine culinary dimension that will make its Bayou City Art Festival Downtown debut. The Epicurean Adventure will feature wine tastings and free executive chef cooking demonstrations. Thus far, Michael~David Winery of California will be participating, as will Chef David Cordua of the Cordua family of restaurants in Houston (Americas, Artista, Churrascos & Amazon Grill). A nationally ranked food and wine festival production company orchestrates the Epicurean Adventure.

$10 for adults, free for children 12 and under

Parking:

Available on city streets for the usual event fee in the City Hall Annex. Also, parking is available in Theater District Parking under Tranquility Park.
