About the San Jacinto Museum of History

Chartered in 1938, the purpose of the San Jacinto Museum is to "preserve and revisualize the history of early Texas". The museum's collections cover over four centuries of history with an emphasis on colonial Texas as a part of Mexico. Collections and exhibits include:

Observation Deck: take the 500-ft elevator ride to the top of the San Jacinto Monument for a spectacular view of the entire city.

Jesse H. Jones Theater: relive the story of the Battle of San Jacinto in the 35-minute action-packed film Texas Forever!!

Accessories of Yesteryear: large collection of formerly common objects that we no longer find useful today such as smelling salts, gaiters and fobs.

The Texas Navy: tempera paintings of Texas Navy ships by Austin-based artist Fred Toler
