Museum District Day Is This Weekend
Somehow, at the tail end of Labor Day Weekend, Shia LaBeouf's Disturbia movie made it's way into my DVD player. In case you're unfamiliar, Disturbia is the suspense thriller co-starring Sarah Roemer from that cheerleader movie Fired Up, which is every bit as tacky as it sounds.
But I digress, in the movie LaBeouf's character is on house arrest for whatever reason. He's not allowed to venture too far away from his home lest an alarm goes off that notifies police who will then show up and harass/arrest him. I mentioned to Mrs. Houston Guide how horrible that'd be, missing out on anything that didn't happen to occur within your own living room, and she promptly replied "Yeah, like Museum District Day."
Now, the reason she picked that specific event is simple: we were supposed to go as a family this year (the boys are getting to be the age where we can take them out into the public without them completely embarrassing us), however it looks like I'll likely miss MDD on account of a college football game I may or may not be attending.
At any rate, it served as an incidental reminder that others might still be interested in attending, so I thought I'd throw up the details of Museum District Day, as well as a handy dandy guide to the actual Museum District. All the info is after the jump.
Here's your guide to traversing the Museum District. Here's a list of the ten best museums in the Museum District. And here's a blurb about MDD from the head honchos themselves:
"Get ready to enjoy a free day in the Houston Museum District on Saturday, September 12 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Board a free shuttle bus at any participating museum and spend the entire day exploring favorite museums and discovering new destinations. Museum District Day will feature fascinating exhibitions, hands-on activities, demonstrations, and performances throughout the day. Seventeen museums will waive their general admission fees to offer the community opportunities to enjoy the District's diverse displays of art, science, nature, and history."
Do enjoy yourselves, folks.
