Spacefest: 40th Anniversary of the Moon Landing Celebration

Monday July 13, 2009
Simply because I know you were sitting there thinking, "Man, how am I going to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the moon landing with my family without spending an arm and a leg," I figured I'd pass along an email I received (thanks go to reader Terry this time) aimed at just that thing.

Downtown's Discovery Green, which has solidified itself as one of the premiere spots for free family fun, has a great line-up of events this weekend to help you celebrate.

After the jump, see a blurb from their site as well as a rundown of the entire schedule:

"Houston, home to the astronauts, engineers, scientists and all the people who helped make this historic journey, will remember, celebrate and look forward with events at Discovery Green, Houston’s new downtown park. Presented in partnership with NASA and Rice University.

Schedule:

Friday, July 17:
In the Shadow of the Moon (film) Live music by Max Q.

Saturday, July 18:
Apollo 13 (film) Live music by Clandestine

Monday, July 20:
“Driven to Explore” NASA mobile exhibit
“Discovery Dome” featuring “Future Moon” honoring the Apollo astronauts
Wish Wall interactive exhibit
Live Music by the El Orbits
Special appearance by Cirque du Soleil performers from Saltimbanco
Live Music by the American Fine Arts youth Organization
Original footage of worldwide news coverage of the moon landing and John F. Kennedy’s stirring speech, delivered at Rice University, proclaiming America’s intent to land on the moon.
