Should HISD Release Names of Superintendent Possibles?

By , About.com GuideFebruary 25, 2009

Follow me on:

Houston Independent School District, the largest public school system in the state, is being pressured to release the names of some of the frontrunning applicants for the upcoming Superintendent vacancy. The current head honcho, Abe Saavedra, has previously announced that his term will end on 2010.

Saavedra's reign has had goods (higher academic scores) and bads (high dropout rate, possible deletion of bussing to certain magnet schools), but most seem eager to have a fresh face in the position. So, what say you: do you think HISD should release the names of some of the potential Supers, something they haven't done in the past decades? Or should they be left to their typically secretive ways?
