Tuesday To Do: Tai Chi at the Houston Arboretum

Tuesday December 2, 2008

Tai Chi is, apparently, a "centuries-old Chinese martial art that has evolved into a highly effective form of exercise, regardless of age or physical ability." Essentially, it's exactly what you're picturing in your head: slow, fluid movements that, depending on your level of balance, may or may not make you look entirely foolish. If nothing else, it certainly looks relaxing. I wouldn't know. I'm far too closed-minded to try such a thing.

Sifu Dale Napier, the Tai Chi instructor, has a whole host of things on his resume that'll make taking this $15 class worth your while: Tai Chi gold medal winner, published Tai Chi author, Sensei to All-Valley Karate Tournament winner Daniel Laruso, etc. If you make it out there, shoot me an email or leave a comment below and let us know what it was like.
