Tuesday To Do: Feel Better About Yourself, Chill Out With Anime Fans

Tuesday November 25, 2008

Okay, if I'm reading the synopsis right, Negima (Series 1), an anime movie, is about a ten-year-old boy who is a middle school teacher in charge of a class full of girls. Oh, and also, he happens to be a wizard (why not?).

Two issues of concern for me:

1. I'm curious to know what type of certification process the teachers go through in Asia? I imagine it's very difficult, seeing as how a ten-year-old boy made it through and all.

2. Who thought it a good idea to hire a preteen? Was that really a conversation that took place?

Principal: You know what? We're not reaching these children. We need someone that can get through to these kids. Someone that can reach them on a personal level. Do you have any ideas?

Asst. Principal: Ummm, how about a ten-year-old?

Principal: Whaaa?

Asst. Principal: Yeah, a ten-year-old. Like, someone three years younger than the students themselves.

Principal: I don't know, man. Sounds like a bad idea.

Asst. Principal: What about if he's a wizard?

Principal: Well that changes everything.

Please check out the movie at 7:30 at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema inside West Oaks Mall and see if either of those issues are addressed. Thanks.
