Latin Grammys Tonight in Houston

Thursday November 13, 2008
After months and months of planning, posturing, preconcerts and parties (alliteration is cool), the 9th installment of the Latin Grammy Awards (Grammys? Grammies?) is happening tonight at the Toyota Center.

Big (Latin) names will be thick in attendance tonight, including in the likes of Gloria Estefan, Juanes and, naturally, John Legend. More important to Houston's cause, however, will be a 90 second video clip that will showcase some of Houston's finer Latin artists. (I assume I'll be mentioned at some point, but these things are hard to gauge.) It's a big moment for our music scene so make sure to check it out.

After the show, which aires on Univision by the way, you can hit up myriad of after parties, both of the official and unofficial variety. There are parties at the newly opened House of Blues and at George R. Brown, but getting in involves being on a "list" of sorts so you'll most likely do better hitting up Venue (723 Main), which will have a party that rapper Pitbull is involved with, or Grooves (2300 Pierce) which features an appearance by Chetes (nominated for Best Rock Solo Vocal album) and performances by a bevy of DJs. Houston's Tuerka will also be performing.
