A Zoo In Mourning
Tuesday November 11, 2008
It's a sad day in the captive animal kingdom: Mac, Houston Zoo's two-year-old pachyderm passed away recently after contracting elephant herpesvirus. An Asian elephant's average life span usually reaches out betwen 50-70 years. Weighing in at 384 lbs, Mac was the largest Asian elephant born in captivity.
Said Carl the lion, "Mac, was a really great guy. Just a real sweatheart. He never forgot anything. And he had this thing about mice. He was terrified of 'em. Can you believe it? That big 'ol lug, scared of a mouse. He's really gonna be missed."
Now that a visit to the zoo is going to be a total bummer, shoot on over to one of these activities instead from the November Events Calendar.
