Metro Is Not Concerned With Your Measly Recession

Monday November 3, 2008
The Houston Chronicle is reporting that Metro's board of directors has approved a price hike. They're citing a rise in fueling costs as the basis for the increase, even though gas prices around the city have (finally) dropped to under $2.50 a gallon in most locations. From the Chron:

"Under the new fare schedule approved last month, local bus and rail passengers will pay $1.25, an increase of 25 cents, for a one-way trip.

Park and Ride commuters will pay up to a $1 more, depending on how far they travel.

Katy-area commuters, for example, now will pay $4.50 for a trip into downtown Houston, bringing the tab for a roundtrip to $9."

I'm not a mathematician or anything, but I'm fairly certain you could drive from Katy to downtown and back for less than $9; that is, unless you're driving a Hummer. But, really, if you drive a Hummer, you probably deserve any kind of injustices that come your way.
